STATEMENT

I am interested in the the moments when our bodies exist on a precipice, transitioning from one state to another, and the role of the psyche and spirit in these transformations. Studies of global mythologies, feminine consciousness, artifacts of matriarchal societies, and archetypes of the collective unconscious are the impetus for what become immersive spiritual spaces addressing these profound liminal experiences.

I draw upon the visual language of early human mark-making, Baroque altars, Christian mysticism and Transcendentalism when creating and installing objects that include ceramic sculpture, handmade papers, drawings, textiles and cast bronze and silver. Often there is an element of community involvement, like the collection of children’s stenciled hands, to illuminate a shared humanness.
